CM distributes free bycycles,cash prizes to students

Chennai, July 25: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday, July 25, gave away bycycles and prizes to students from government, aided and Corporation high schools.

An official press release here this Friday, July 25 morning said under the free bycycle scheme, the government would provide bycycles to over 5.22 lakh Class XII students of government, government-aided, Corporation and Town Panchayat Schools. The scheme would cost the government Rs 127.63 crore. Mr Karunanidhi also presented cash awards of Rs 10,000 to ten toppers in 2008 Class X Public Exams belonging to Adi-Dravidar, ST and Adi Dravidars who converted to Christianity. All of them had Tamil as one of the subjects.

Similarly, six toppers in Class XII examinations from the same communities, were also honoured. A total of 43 toppers belonging to BC, MBC and Minorities who topped Standard X Examinations also got cash prizes.

The Chief Minister also gave away cash assistance to 1,200 students belonging to BC, MBC and denotified communities and topped Standard X examinations to pursue further education.

Assitance was also given to 385 students from Adi-Dravidar, ST and Adi Dravidars, who converted to Christianity to puruse education upto Class XII.

Ten authors belonging to the Adi-Dravidar and ST Communities were given Rs 20,000 each to help them publish their works.
