Teachers to go on indefinite strike

Bhopal, Jul 24 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Shikshak Congress (MPSC) has threatened to launch a state-wide indefinte strike in all educational institutions in September to press their 21-point demands.

MPSC president Ramnaresh Tripathy told reporters here today that prior to the strike they would observe token dharna in the state capital on August 13.

The demands included revision of pay at par with central scale, ban on taking non-teaching work from teachers and status and facilities to contract teachers and Gurujis at par with government teachers.

He said about 4.5 lakh teachers in the state were suffering owing to the 'faulty' educational policies of the government.

Expressing concern over the reports of teachers committing suicide in many districts, Mr Tripathy said, ''It is very serious matter and we will not sit idle if the government failed to improve the lot of teachers.'' UNI BDG SP SW CS1645
