Prez completes a year in office
New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) After creating history by becoming the country's first woman President, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil will complete one year in office tomorrow.
She had ascended to the top post after defeating former Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
As part of the day's programmes, the President will inaugurate tomorrow 'Roshini' an initiative to convert the President's Estate into an eco-friendly, energy efficient and a plastic free model township.
The initiative will be a model for solid waste management, liquid waste management, water re-cycling, rain water harvesting, and increase the green cover.
Later in the evening, Ms Patil will meet 30 women from Rajasthan who walked the ramp at the United Nations General Assembly hall earlier this month. The event was to mark the International Year of Sanitation 2008.
The women have been liberated from the age-old inhuman practice of manual scavenging, as part of a social reform initiative of the Sulabh movement. Bindeshwar Pathak, head of Sulabh International will also be present.
