Power cut will affect Kerala's economy: ICCI

Kochi, Jul 24 (UNI) Reacting adversely to the proposed 25 per cent power cut for industrial units in Kerala from tomorrow, the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) today said this would badly affect the state's economy.

The industry, catering to the internal market, would not be able to maintain supplies as per requirements, ICCI President R Mohandas said in a release, here.

The exporters would also find it difficult to fulfill commitments to their overseas buyers, he added.

He said certain types of industries required uninterrupted and adequate power supply to avoid quality deterioration.

''The unprecedented level of inflation has had its adverse impact on the industry. On top of this, if a 25 per cent power cut is imposed, it will cripple this sector further. It will be desirable if the authorities think of alternative arrangements in order to avoid the proposed power cut,'' he added.
