Kerala Govt for amendment to restrict river sand mining

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 24 (UNI) The Kerala Government is seriously considering to bring in certain amendments to the Kerala River Bank Protection and Control on Sand Mining Act, 2001, for restricting sand mining, Revenue Minister K P Rajendran told the State Assembly today.

In a written reply to Mr C T Ahammadali (IUML), he said the Government had appointed a high-level committee to study and submit a report in this regard.

The Government had noted artificial shortage of river sand following lapses in the Act, he added.
