JMFC frames charges against 8 others in the ODI ticket scam

Margao, Jul 24 (UNI) The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court here today framed charges of cheating and forgery against eight more in the infamous April 2001 ODI-cricket-ticket scam, in which law minister Dayand Narvekar had already been chargesheeted last month.

The eight accused included Ramashankardas, Vinod Fadte, Chinmay Fallari, Devdutta Fallari, Veknatesh Raut Desai, Joaquim Peres, Eknath Naik and Gangaram Bhise, most of them office bearers of the Goa Cricket Association.

The prosecution case against them was that the accused were responsible for printing and selling fake tickets in the ODI match betwen India and Australia, resulting in police lathi-charge and bursting of teargas shells against scores of cricket fans, who went berserk at the Nehru Stadium here.

The police had also seized purportedly fake tickets during subsequent investigation and booked cases against the office bearers including Mr Narvekar, who was then the president of the association.
