HP urges Centre to sanction IIIT
Shimla, Jul 24 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government has urged the Centre to sanction an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) for the state.
The demand was raised by Technical Education Minister Narinder Bragata at the conference of higher education and technical education ministers at New Delhi today.
He also demanded polytechnic colleges for five districts under national skill development mission and requested for funds to strengthen the technical education infrastructure under the mission in the state.
The Minister pleaded for relaxation in norms for setting up technical educational institutes in hilly areas.
''The norms for plain areas should not be made applicable to hilly areas as the cost of development and setting up institutions is much higher in hilly areas due to difficult topographical conditions and harsh climatic conditions,'' he said.
