Shimla, Jul 24 (UNI) Horticulture Ministers of Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttrakhand would meet Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit tomorrow to press for acceptance of long-standing demands of the horticulturists of their states who were being fleeced by middlemen in Azadpur Subzi Mandi in Delhi.
Himachal Horticulture Minister Narender Bragta, who is Chairman of the hilly states Horticulture Ministers committee, said the ministers would jointly demand implementation of Model Agriculture Market Committee Act (APMC) to end exploitation of fruit growers from hilly states by middlemen.
He said the middlemen were charging commission from the growers instead of buyers, violating the Act and causing loss to the growers.
The middlemen were overcharging commission and not adhering to the prescribed rate of six per cent to be charged from the buyers, he added.
