Heavy rain lashes Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Port Blair, Jul 24 (UNI) Heavy rain lashed remote islands of Andaman and Nicobar, disrupting life and leaving areas inundated, since last 24 hours.
The Met Department in Andaman has also given heavy rainfall warning for the far-flung islands for the next 24 hours.
Southwest monsoon is moderate to strong over Andaman Sea. Mainly cloudy sky with moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershower will occur at many places with gusty surface wind of wind speed 45 KMPH mainly from southwest direction. One or two spells of rain may be heavy, the warning issued by local met department said here.
Since last 24 hours these islands have received more than 14.44 mm of rainfall while since January 2008 more than 2011.4 mm rainfall have been recorded.
Areas like Mohanpura, Marine, Sippighat of South Andaman and Port Blair got flooded with rainwater, leaving islanders high and dry.
There was no report or any damage or loss of life so far.
Reports of heavy rainfall and thunder shower have also been received from North and Middle Andaman Regions, officials said here today.
