Eight killed in two road accidents in Punjab
Amritsar, Jul 24: Eight people were killed and 10 others injured in two separate road accidents in Tarn Taran and Moga districts of Punjab this morning.
Six people were killed and 10 others injured when a mini bus collided with a harvesting combine near Naushara Panwan in Tarn Taran distict. One of the deceased was identified Bikar Singh, Gunman of the Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner. The remaining were being identified, police sources said.
While three of the injured were admitted to the civil hospital at Tarn Taran, seven wounded were brought to the civil hospital at Amritsar.
The mishap occured when the mini bus, which was coming from Harike and going towards Tarn Taran, tried to overtake the combine and overturned after colliding with it.
In another accident, two motorcycle-borne youths, identified as Arun Kumar and Ranjit Singh, died on the spot when their motorcycle collided head-on with a van near Gill village on the Moga-Kotkapura road, 8 km from Moga.
Their bodies were sent to Moga civil hospital for postmortem. The driver of the van escaped, leaving the van. The motorcyclists were going from Baghapurana to Moga while the van was on its way to Baghapurana, a report from Moga said.
