Centre reviews security situation in Assam
New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) The Centre today reviewed the security situation in Assam in view of the increase in violence in Bodo Territorial Autonomous District area and surrender of some ULFA cadre.
Union Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta reviewed the situation in Assam at a high-level meeting which was attended by the Chief Secretary and DGP of Assam, Special Secretary (Internal Secretary) M L Kumawat. Senior officers of the CRPF and BSF and representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Army.
The meeting took stock of the situation arising out of the unilateral declaration of ceasefire by some ULFA cadres. The violence in the Bodo Territorial Autonomous District area was viewed with concern and effective measures to deal with this were discussed.
The meeting also reviewed the security of the infrastructure projects in the NC Hill District particularly construction of broad-gauge railway line and NHAI projects.
