Cabinet okays cell sites in cantonments

New Delhi, Jul 24 (UNI) In a decision which will help improve the quality of cell phone and communication services in cantonments, the Union Cabinet today approved issuance of policy guidelines for allotment of defence land to infrastructure providers to build, operate and maintain various communication services in cantonments and military stations.

Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said here after the Cabinet meeting that approval has been granted for issuance of policy guidelines for allotment of defence land to public sector and independent infrastructure providers who have been granted licences by Department of Telecommunications to build, operate and maintain various services, including unified access services, basic services and cellular mobile services.

The infrastructure providers would now be able to lay optical fibre cables and set up or construct shared communication towers on defence land at military stations and cantonments.
