Bengal gov takes steps to thwart terrorist activities in state
Kolkata, Jul 24 (UNI) West Bengal government has undertaken several steps to check terrorist activities in West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said today.
He told the Assembly that the steps had been taken following intelligence reports indicating possibility of terrorist strikes at Jhargram in West Midnapore and some other places of the neighbouring two districts.
Mr Bhattacharjee said the state intelligence department had been strengthened to keep a close vigil on the movement of militants in the areas, adding arrest order had also been issued in this regard.
He informed that additional police camps were set up across the three districts to help thwart extremist activities.
Referring to the other measures taken to contain terrorism, Mr Bhattacharjee said Paschimanchal Unnayan Parishad and panchayats were directed to develop the socio economic status of the people in these three districts.
'' The state government is committed to checking all terrorist activities across the state and the steps taken for West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia is a step in that direction,'' Mr Bhattacharjee maintained.
