Sangharsh Samiti protestor commits suicide in Jammu

Jammu, Jul 23 (UNI) A protestor representing Baba Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, who was staging a chain hunger strike, today allegedly ''committed'' suicide in the heart of the city here.

The youth identified as Kuldeep Kumar Dogra, 33, resident of Talab Tillo, joined the agitation under the banner of Sangharsh Samiti demanding handing over of land back to the Shrine Board and removal of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra.

''The protestor reached the venue of dharna this afternoon and in subconscious condition started reciting a poem. Soon after he completed his poem, he fainted,'' an eyewitness told UNI.

He was immediately shifted to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. However, it was alleged that the protestor consumed poison before visiting the site of agitation.

Hundreds of leaders from Saffron brigade and religious organisations reached the venue while the angry mob burnt tyres and shouted slogans against Mr Vohra, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, Patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed and National Conference President Omar Abdullah.
