PM, LS Speaker, leader of Oppn pay floral tributes to Lokmanya Tilak

New Delhi, Jul 23 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today led the nation in paying floral tributes to Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in the Central Hall of Parliament House on his 152nd birth anniversary.

The function was attended by Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Jaswant Singh, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani, Union Ministers Shivraj V Patil, Vayalar Ravi, Pawan Kumar Bansal and V Naranasamy.

Several Members of Parliament, including Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Prakash Javadekar, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, S S Ahluwalia and Ashok Argal, and former members of Parliament also attended the function.

Secretary General of the Lok Sabha P D T Achary and Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha Dr V K Agnihotri also paid floral tributes.

On the occasion, the Lok Sabha Secretariat released a booklet containing the profile of Lokamanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in English and Hindi.

The portrait of Lokamanya Tilak was unveiled by the then Prime Minister, Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, in the Central Hall of Parliament House on July 28, 1956.
