Left will have to pay heavy price : KPCC chief

Kozhikode, Jul 23 (UNI) The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief Ramesh Chennithala today said The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will have to pay a heavy price for attempting to dislodge the secular United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre by joining hands with the communal forces.

Talking to newspersons, after inaugurating a UDF dharna here, he said the people would react strongly against the stand taken by the CPI (M) by joining the BJP camp to defeat the confidence motion moved by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the Lok Sabha, yesterday.

That party had also lost its credibility for opposing the proposed pro-people Indo-US nuke deal with the support of the saffron brigade, he said.

The CPI (M) would realise their ''blunder'' of opposing the deal at a later stage as has happened in many other cases earlier, the Congress leader said.

Stating that the stand taken by CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat on the nuke deal indicated his ''immaturity,'' he said such a step was taken ignoring the wishes of senior party leaders, including LS Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

He also accused Mr Karat with attempting to wean away Congress and Samajwadi Party members with the help of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samajwadi Party leader, Mayawati to defeat the motion.
