BMC to modernise Deonar slaughter house

Mumbai, July 23 (UNI) Deonar slaughter house, the primary market for animals in the city, will be given a new look at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore by the Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation (BMC).

A proposal to this effect was passed in the standing committee today. The slaughter house will be equipped with modern machines and other technologies.

''The new technology will have a clean set up, which will decrease the spilling of blood in the premises,'' an official said.

A tender has been called for the same and the consultant has been appointed to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, the butchers and other people involved in the trade, are opposing the proposal saying that it may ruin their livelihood.
