BJP MP Manorama not worried about expulsion

Malpe (Udupi), Jul 23 (UNI) The expelled BJP MP from Udupi Manorama Madhwaraj today said she was not upset at the party's decision since she was not contesting the next elections.

The BJP expelled Ms Madhwaraj for defying the party whip and abstaining from voting in the a 'trust vote', which the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre won in Parliament yesterday.

Talking to reporters here, Ms Madhwaraj, however, said she had not yet received any communication from the party about her expulsion. ''Even if I am expelled, I am not bothered as I have already decided not to contest in the coming general elections, she said.

Expressing deep anguish, she alleged that when she joined the people in opposing the proposed coal based thermal power plant in the district, no one from the party had supported her and she had to fight a lone battle against the project. She asserted that she would remain with the people in opposing the project which would harm the ecology of the region.

Ms Madhwaraj said she was not against the Indo-US nuclear deal and it was not harmful to the country in any way. However, as she could not go against the party whip in opposing the deal, she preferred to abstain from voting, she added.
