Undertrial KLO ultras call off hunger-strike
Siliguri, Jul 22 (UNI) Thirty-six undertrials of Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), who had been on hunger strike for a month at Jalpaiguri Central Jail, today called off their agitation.
The prisoners, who have been accused of waging war against the state had gone on fast since June 12 demanding unconditional release.
While 11 of them were admitted to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital, the rest were taken to Jalpaiguri District Hospital as their health deteriorated, at different times, after a week of fasting.
The agitation was called off in response to a request made by Jalpaiguri Divisional Commisioner B L Meena and other administrative officers, Additional Inspector General of Prison (North Zone) Panchanan Biswas told newspersons.
Mr Biswas also visited the two health units where the prisoners were undergoing treatment.
