Pension age will not be increased: Balakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 22 :The Kerala Government has no plans to increase the pension age of government employees, Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan informed the state Assembly on Tuesday, July 22.

Replying to questions from Mr M Ummer (IUML) and others, Mr Balakrishnan, deputed by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, said the government had no such plans though some states had implemented it. No decision would be taken in this regard without a consensus. The minister said no political party had raised the issue and if the Government came up with such a proposal, all the parties would oppose it. Youth organisations would also oppose the move due to unemployment, he added.

He pointed out that in Jammu and Kashmir, the pension age was 55 years and except in certain departments like judiciary, the pension age in the state was also 55 years.
