Freedom fighter Taranand Singh passes away

Darbhanga, Jul 22 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter Taranand Singh died here yesterday after a protracted illness.

He was 103.

Singh, who was the president of Darbhanga Freedom Fighters Association, had participated in the historic Quit India Movement in August 1942 and spent long years behind bars in Bhagalpur jail.

Singh was honoured by former President of India A P J Abdul Kalam in 2006 in recognition of his significant contributions to the freedom movement of the country.

Among others, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Ali Ashraf Fatmi and former cricketer Kirti Azad, condoled Singh's death.
