TN: Puff of smoke at a tea shop proves fatal for youth
Chennai, Jul 21: A puff of smoke at a tea shop during a street play proved fatal for a person and culminated in incidents of arson and violence at Vallalpari Nagar coming under suburban Pallikkaranai police station limits on Sunday, July 20.
Police sources said Raghu and his friend Sureshkumar were having a puff at the shop, when a group led by Velu objected to it. A wordy duel ensued and in the melee Velu and his supporters stabbed Raghu and Sureshkumar Ragu, who suffered multiple cut injuries all over his body, bled to death on the spot, while Suresh was admitted to a hospital in a critical condition.
Enraged by this, relatives of Raghu staged a road roko and indulged in arson demanding action against the killers. They went on an attacking spree damaging 12 two-wheelers, three autorickshaws and a dozen tubelights put up for the street play. Tension prevailed in the area, following the incident before police rushed to the spot and restored public order. Police pickets were deployed in the area to prevent any retaliatory attack.
