CM hands over cheque for research awards
Chennai, July 21 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today handed over a cheque for Rs one crore to the Central Institute of Classical Language (CICL) for giving awards to scholars who conducted research on ancient Tamil inscriptions.
He handed over the contribution to Dr P Marudanayagam of CICL in the presence of State Electricity Minister Arcot N Veersamy and Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy.
On June 30, Mr Karunanidhi announced a contribution of Rs one crore from personal funds to set up the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Classical Language Trust.
The interest accrued from the amount deposited would be used for giving awards and cash prizes every year to Tamil scholars, he said.
