People in Kashmir overpowered extortionists
Srinagar, Jul 20 (UNI) In a rare show of courage, people in a remote south Kashmir village overpowered an armed extortionist today, official sources said.
They said a group of extortionists were threatening the people of village Gund, Frisal, in south Kashmir district of Kulgam at gun point.
Today, when the gang members again came there, the villagers challenged them. However, before they could manage to escape, one of them was overpowered.
He was later handed over to the police, they said and identified him as Mohammad Hussain Ganie who had earlier been detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) for militant activities.
On his instance Police recovered one SLR from an orchard in Gund Chahal. Polcie later arrested two other gang members Irshad Ahmad Bhat and Jehangir Ahmad Ganie.
He was also involved in militancy related activities and had remained detained under PSA during the year 2006-2007. Hussain and Jehangir were involved in two different FIRs of district Kulgam.
The duo was earlier associated with Hizbul Mujahideen and the SLR which was recovered was snatched from a guard at Mujmarg Shopian on June 15, 06.
