Man commits suicide in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jul 20 (UNI) A 35-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in the central Kashmir district of Badgam, official sources said today.

Sources said Abdul Hamid Mir reportedly consumed some poisonous substance.

His family members immediately rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

It was not immediately known why he took the extreme step.

The trend of committing suicide in Kashmir valley, particularly among women, has continued even after the issuance of fatwas by the Muslim Ulmas declaring the act as un-Islamic.
