'M V Kavaratti' flagged off from Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, Jul 20: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs V Radhika Selvi today flagged off the passenger vessel M V Kavaratti, built for the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) jetty here today.
Speaking after flagging off the vessel, she said the vessel would be helpful for the people of the Union Territory, seeking medical treatment and education in the mainland.
HSL Chairman and Managing Director Ajit Tiwari said the vessel, that could carry 700 passengers, was handed over to the Union Territory on June 27, 2008.
The ship, built by HSL, had a cargo carrying capacity of about 200 tonnes. It had modern amenities like lounges, galleries, dining halls, and swimming pool, he added.
