Andaman remembers Martyr Capt Bhattacharjee
Port Blair, Jul 20 (UNI) A function was held here today in the memory of Captain Ashim Kumar Bhattacharjee, who made the islanders proud by laying down his life while fighting militants in Jammu and Kashmir on July 20, 2000.
Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Bhopinder Singh placed a wreath at the Memorial of Capt Bhattacharjee.
A two minute silence was also observed on the occasion as a mark of respect to the brave soul.
He completed his graduation with Chemistry as his major. Later, he was selected for the Indian Military Academy as NCC Cadet.
He made the supreme sacrifice during a fierce encounter with militants.
He was awarded the Sena Medal posthumously by the Army.
