Agitating crowd canecharged

Panna, MP, July 20 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Ajaygarh area in this district after police canecharged and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse an agitating crowd demanding releasing of ten people arrested for vandalism and arson at electricity office in the area last night.

Hundreds of people, including political leaders from prominent parties like the BJP and the Congress, gheraoed police station but police refused to release culprits since case had been registered.

When situation went out of control, police resorted to canecharging during which about 50 people were injured.

Markets remained closed and additional police force were deployed. Senior police and administrative officials rushed to the spot.
