Agitating crowd baton-charged

Panna, MP, Jul 20 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Ajaygarh area of this district after police baton-charged and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse an agitating crowd, demanding release of ten people arrested for vandalism and arson at electricity office in the area last night.

Hundreds of people, including political leaders from prominent parties like the BJP and the Congress, gheraoed the police station but police refused to release culprits since a case had been registered against them.

When situation went out of control, police resorted to baton-charging during which about 50 people were injured.

Markets remained closed and additional police force were deployed. Senior police and administrative officials rushed to the spot.
