Surat scribes condemn attack on Ahmedabad journalist

Surat, Jul 19 (UNI) Condemning the attack on mediapersons in Ahmedabad yesterday, the city-based journalists today demanded strict action against the guilty persons.

Journalists here condemned the attack and made a representation to District Collector Dilip Raval. They said media was invited to cover the 'Gurupurnima Mahotsav' in Ahmedabad, after which they were attacked by the disciples of Asaram Bapu. Various religious leaders also supported the reporters' move and condemned the attack.

Ashok Gohil, President of Surat Patrakar Sangh, alleged that the security personnel at Asaram Bapu's ashram were mostly outsiders and were apparently hardcore criminals who attacked the journalists.

He also alleged that they were carrying unlicensed weapons.

Police should investigate the licenses of these weapons and lodge a complaint against the attackers.

Religious leader Ramvilasdasji said, ''The original name of Asaram Bapu is Ashumal and he is spoiling the name of Lord Rama. If Gurukul can't protect or take care of children, then it should be closed.'' UNI XR/PVN SSS LPB KN1727
