Pak Senate committee calls for closure of Guantanamo Bay prison
Islamabad, July 19 : The Pakistan Senate's Standing Committee on Human Rights on Saturday unanimously adopted a resolution that called on the United States to shut down the Guantanamo Bay prison permanently and release all Pakistani prisoners from there.
According to The News, the meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator S.M. Zafar at Parliament House here, and was also attended by Foreign Office and Interior Ministry officials.
Through its resolution, the committee sought an explanation from the concerned authorities on why Pakistanis continued be detained in the infamous prison facility. They also sought an explanation over a Pakistani woman being detained at the Bagram Air Force base prison just outside Kabul.
Talking to media after the meeting, Senator S.M. Zafar said the issue of missing persons did not come under discussion.
