Hindu temple row leads to Thai, Cambodian troops standoff
Bangkok, July 19 : Thai and Cambodian troops are now in confrontationist mode at the border dividing the two countries after four days of clashes over the ancient Preah Vihear Hindu temple.
There is a fear that the dispute between the two countries will escalate, as the Hindu temple has been a source of tension since the International Court of Justice ruled in 1962 that it belonged to Cambodia, a decision that still rankles with the Thais.
The listing of the temple as a World Heritage site this month triggered a political uproar in Thailand, reports The Scotsman.
Officials of the two governments said that they were hoping for a reasonable solution to the dispute, when reports last came in.
