CM directs GHMC to ensure maintenance of graveyards
Hyderabad, July 19 (UNI) Admitting that adequate facilities were not provided in the existing graveyards, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today directed the officials at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of all graveyards.
Addressing the officials at a review meeting on graveyards in the GHMC area, he pointed out that the graveyards were not being properly maintained.
The Chief Minister was informed that the GHMC had started work on improving the existing graveyards at Amberpet, Bansilalpet and Punjagutta and two modern electric crematoria each would be constructed at Amberpet and Bansilalpet cremation grounds.
The Chief Minister was told that government lands were identified for graveyards in GHMC areas, city outskirts within the OR limits at Serilingampally, Qutbullapur, Medchal, Shamirpet, Keesara, Ghatkesar, Hayathnagar, Saroornagar, Rajendranagar and Shamshabad.
Dr Reddy directed that six more places should be identified within the OR limits and at least 10 graveyards should be allotted for Hindus and three for Muslims and three for Christians according to the local population and as decided by the Collector.
