Nuke deal necessary: Jyotiraditya
Shahdol, MP, July 18 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology Jyotiraditya Scindia today said that the 123 Indo-US Nuclear Agreement was imperative in view of the country's power paucity.
''The power demand is 2.20 lakh MW as against generation capacity of 1.31 lakh MW,'' Mr Scindia told mediapersons here. He was in Shahdol and Umaria districts to inaugurate Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited towers.
Describing as wrong the Bharatiya Janata Party's protest against the nuke deal, the Minister claimed that the government would win the trust vote in Parliament.
Speaking at a tribal convention in Umaria's Birsinghpur Pali, he said, ''it is not possible to abandon the Agreement for fear of the government falling. The deal is in the country's interest and will fulfill the dream of electricity in every home.'' Alleging corruption in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme's implementation in Madhya Pradesh, Mr Scindia said that ineligible people were being benefitted and added that after coming to power BJP leaders forgot the bountiful promises made during elections.
