Ivories worth Rs 30 lakh seized, two arrested
Bangalore, Jul 18 (UNI) The City Police have seized ivories worth Rs 30 lakh along with 'Rare Pearls' (Gaja Muthu) and arrested two people in this connection.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) B Shivakumar told mediapersons here today that on information that some people were trying to sell two ivories weighing about nine kg behind the Central Jail here, a constable approached them posing as a customer. While two of them --K N Siddaraju and Ravikumar-- were arrested, one Manjunath managed to escape.
On interrogation, Siddaraju revealed that they were entrusted with sale of the ivories by one Thimmegowda of Hogenakkal in Tamil Nadu.
Mr Shivakumar said the 'rare pearls' might cost lakhs of Rupees in the international market.
Efforts were on to nab Manjunath, he added.
