HC notice to DU, college for terminating employee service

New Delhi, Jul 18 (UNI) The Delhi High Court has issued notice to Delhi University, Shyam Lal College and five others on the petition of a lecturer who despite working for 10 years as an ad hoc employee, was terminated from service whereas other six employees with less qualifications were appointed on regular basis.

Justice S N Aggarwal on Wednesday issued show cause notice to the college and asked them to reply by August 12.

The HC also directed the college that any fresh appointment made by them shall be subject to final outcome of this writ petition in the court.

Contention of the petitioner Dr Prem Prakash Sharma was that he had been teaching as a Hindi lecturer in the Shyam Lal College for the last 10 years on ad hoc basis but the selection committee of the college, which recommends the names to regularise them, ignored his experience and selected those with less experience.

Dr Prakash said the selection committee had indulged in favouritism, overlooking the criteria of merit and seniority. The Court has called for all records of fresh appointments and other conditions of the selection on August 12.
