Congress seeks CBI probe in sale of heritage land in Mandi

Mandi, Jul 18 (UNI) The Congress today demanded a CBI inquiry into to the multi-crore sale of heritage land in this district of Himachal Pradesh and said it was a big case of tax evasion by people who need to be identified.

Addressing a press conference here, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Kaul Singh Thakur said an inquiry was essential into the deal to find out people who were responsible for huge tax evasion.

Replying to a question, he said apparently there seemed to be a hand of the ruling party in it as the person who held the power of attorney was the president of the BJP's Sardar Mandal.

Recently, the police had registered a prime facie case of cheating, benami transaction, criminal conspiracy and corruption last week against district revenue officer, registrar, seller Devinder Jamwal and buyers Khub Ram, Gopal, Kashmir Singh and Subhash Kumar under diffrent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Benami Transactions Prohibition Act and Prevention of Corruption Act.

The HPCC chief also announced that the disciplinary committee of the party would be reconstituted to include senior leaders of the party.
