Rs 15 lakh rectified spirit seized, mob attacks police
Puducherry,July 17(UNI) Excise Police last night seized rectified spirt worth Rs 15 lakh being smuggled into Puducherry.
According to Excise Police,a team led by Deputy Collector(Excise) Anbazhagan intercepted a lorry during a vehicle checking drive at Villianur.
Police chased and stopped the vehicle when it sped away. However the driver escaped under a cover of darkness. Ramesh, who also in the lorry,was arrested.
Immediately, a mob began to pelt stones at the team and were chased away by the police.
Police brought the lorry to the Excise Department. Ramesh informed he was given Rs 1,000 to bring the lorry from Chennai and asked to follow a car which he did.
Police found 12,200 litre of rectified spirit in the lorry.It was learnt the consignment was meant for Samidurai of Aranganur here and his son and others had indulged in the stone pelting. Seperate cases were being registered against them.
