RCom gets another legal salvo from RIL on MTN issue

Mumai, July 17 (UNI) Even as Reliance Communications was in the last lap of its discussions on its deal with South African Telecom major MTN, the Company said today that it has received another letter from Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) threatening legal action.

A spokesman for RCom said that the letter, fourth from RIL on the issue, received today had clearly exposed the malafide design of RIL to derail MTN discussions.

Terming RIL's notice for arbitration proceedings legally and factually unwarranted, RCom said, ''RIL has successfully destroyed India's image in foreign eyes.'' In a related development, an RIL Spokesman said that RCom had refused to participate in the conciliation meetings under the alternate dispute resolutions provisions contained in the Non Competition Agreement. The spokesman said, ''RIL has commenced arbitration proceedings by nominating Hon'ble Justice B P Jeevan Reddy, a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, as an arbitrator for resolution of the disputes.''
