Gadkari slightly ahead in Nagpur LC polls
Nagpur, July 17 (UNI) BJP state unit President and party candidate Nitin Gadkari was slightly ahead of his rivals at the end of the first round of counting for the election from Nagpur Division Graduates constituency of Maharashtra Legislative Council here today.
Mr Gadkari had polled 6,301 first preference votes at the end of the first round of counting, against the 5,295 votes polled by his nearest rival, Baban Taywade, an independent supported by the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Pradeep Padole of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had polled 1,680 votes.
Counting for the election began here this morning. The votes were mixed before being taken up for counting. The entire process is expected to take several hours, official sources said.
