Administration restricts news coverage by local channels in Kanpur

Kanpur, Jul 17 (UNI) The district administration has restricted the telecast of news on local news channels here for carelessly producing the news of attack upon Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Irfan Solanki that resulted in tension across the city.

District Magistrate Anil Sagar today told UNI that some local news channels reported wrong and misleading facts into the matter, resulting in tension in various parts of the city.

There were about 50 electronic channels, of whom most of them were not registered under Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) and Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), the DM said adding, the restriction upon the news coverage would continue till they get the registration.

The TV channels would, however, be allowed to telecast entertainment programmes, Mr Sonkar informed.

The SP MLA was wounded in an attack by some armed miscreants in Banthara area of Unnao district on Monday last.
