Kuala Lumpur, July 16 : Malay Indian political leaders have been urged to ensure that Indian students fill at least 10 percent of places in universities.

According to a Malaysia Nanban report, Malaysia Namakkal Welfare Association president R. Karunakaran said that Indians, being the third-largest community in the country, had been treated unfairly by the Government.

He said many Indian students who obtained outstanding grades in their exams failed to get into local universities, adding that the number of students accepted this year was less than in previous years.

He said elected representatives and community leaders must work to ensure that at least 10 percent of places were given to Indian students.

He described the younger generation as Malaysia's future leaders and assets.
