Fire delays goods train in Tamil Nadu
Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, Jul 16: A goods train, bound for Tiruchirapalli from here, suffered a delay of about five hours near Janakipuram railway gate here after fire from its diesel engine snapped an overhead electric cable, this morning.
Railway sources said instead of smoke billowing out from the diesel engine, fire was noticed. The blaze snapped the electric cable, which fell on the train.
As the railway gate was abutting the National Highway, vehicular traffic was disrupted on the highway for about five hours. The vehicles were later forced to take a diversion.
Trains running on the route were also delayed for about five hours.
Later, power supply in the area was cut and the cable was removed from the train, following which it resumed its journey to Tiruchirapalli.
