Defectors will be taught a bitter lesson: Gowda

Hubli, Karnataka, Jul 16 (UNI) Charging the BJP in Karnataka with indulging in engineering defections among Opposition legislators using ''large sums of ill-gotten money,'' Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda of the JD (S) said the 'betrayers' will be taught a bitter lesson in the byeelections.

Speaking to newsmen after visiting the house of Puttappa Honnati, a farmer died in police firing at Haveri Town recently, Mr Gowda said 'while defection cannot be stalled,defectors would be taught lesson for their betrayal during the elections.' Charging some of the BJP leaders with deploying their ill-gotten money to encourage defection in both the Congress and the JD(S), Mr Gowda expressed concern for the status of Karnataka Polity.

Replying to questions, Mr Gowda reiterated the party will soon take a decision on Trust Vote sought by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
