Centre releases Rs 761.39 lakh to NE for constructing sanctuaries

Shillong, Jul 16 (UNI) The Union Environment and Forests Ministry has released Rs 761.39 lakh to the eight Northeastern states during 2007-08 under the Centrally-sponsored scheme 'Development of National Parks and Sanctuaries'.

Official sources said here today that of the total amount of Rs 761.39 lakh, Mizoram received the highest amount of Rs 169.46 lakh for this purpose during the period.

Sikkim received the second highest amount of Rs 159.22 lakh while another Himalayan state Arunachal Pradesh was at the third spot, receiving Rs 125.05 lakh from the Ministry.

Similarly, Manipur received Rs 105.89 lakh, Assam Rs 81.78 lakh, Meghalaya Rs 64.88 lakh and Tripura Rs 36 lakh, the sources added.

Nagaland was allocated the least amount of Rs 19.11 lakh for the purpose.
