400 SP activists held for defying prohibitory orders
Kanpur, July 16 (UNI) The city police today arrested as many as 400 Samajwadi Party (SP) activists on charges of defying the prohibitory orders to protest the attack on party MLA Irfan Solanki.
The SP workers defied the prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC, police said.
The arrest were made when the enraged mob was going to launch their proposed traffic jam at Jajmau overbridge in agitation.
The arrested, included SP city president Nasiruddin, general secretary Chandresh singh and president of Kanpur (Rural) district Munindra Shukla.
Mr Nasiruddin said the police took the agitators into custody near Jajmau octroy post and disallowed them to reach the spot.
The SP leaders also alleged that the police used mild force and detained them.
Meanwhile, the police made elobrate arrangement to maintain law and order and deployed heavy force at Jajmau overbridge and other senstive places throughout the city to prevent any untoward incident.
Mr Solanki, the SP MLA from Arya Nagar, and his two brothers were injured in an attack by some persons in Banthara area here on Monday last.
The accused miscreants were still at large.
