Nationwide port and dock strike called off
Mumbai, Jul 15 (UNI) The Port and Dock Workers' Federation today called off its proposed strike from tomorrow following signing of a statutory settlement between the Indian Ports Association and representative of the five recognised federations of the port and dock workers.
All India Port and Dock Workers' Federation President S R Kulkarni said in a statement here today that the statutory settlement was signed between Indian Ports Association and workers' representatives in the presence of Chief Labour Commissioner at New Delhi.
As per the settlement, the workers are entitled to get a lumpsum adjustable advance, equivalent to be calculated at 13.5 per cent of the existing basic pay, for 18 months with effect from January one, 2007 to June 30, 2008. The amount would be disbursed within 30 days.
The workers will also get benefit of merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with the basic pay, he added.
