Don't be party to corporate wars, CPI(M) tells PM
New Delhi, Jul 15: The CPI(M) on Tuesday, July 15, impressed upon Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to keep away from the corporate houses when the die has been cast for July 22 trust vote in the Lok Sabha, calling it ''a dangerous precedent''.
''The corporate houses are openly in the fray to lobby their interests in the run-up to the confidence vote,'' CPI(M) polit bureau said in a statement here. The Left party statement assumes critical significance in the wake of Reliance Industries Head Mukesh Ambani's meeting Dr Singh yesterday in the backdrop of the recent alliance between the Congress-led government and Samajwadi party, which is said to be close to the younger Ambani, Mr Anil.
A dangerous precedent has been set with the Prime Minister being asked to personally intervene to mediate between the two Ambani brothers, the CPI(M) said.
''The Prime Minister's office should not become the concilation office for warring corporates, however desperate the ruling party may be to retain power,'' the statement added.
