CPI (M) tells Government to stay clear from corporate wars
New Delhi, July 15 : The Communist Party of India-Marxist today stated in New Delhi that the Prime Minister's Office should not become a "conciliation office" for warring corporate houses.
CPI (M) Polit Bureau said, "The Prime Minister's Office should not become the conciliation office for warring corporates however desperate the ruling party may be to retain power."
The Polit Bureau was referring to Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani's meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday.
On Monday, Mukesh Ambani met the Prime Minister in New Delhi in the wake of Samajawadi Party leader Amar Singh raising a number of issues, including the demand for levy of windfall profit tax on private petroleum refiners.
"The corporate houses are openly in the fray to lobby their interests in the run up to the confidence vote," the Polit Bureau statement said, noting that a "dangerous precedent" has been set with the Prime Minister "being asked to personally intervene to mediate between the Ambani brothers".
Amar Singh, considered close to Anil Ambani, Mukesh's younger brother, has also reportedly sought the Prime Minister's intervention to bring peace between the Ambani brothers.
