Congress opposes military option against Iran
New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) The Congress today reacted strongly to reports suggesting the possibility of imminent use of military force against Iran by Israel, and said dialogue and discourse on a bilateral basis and through the use of multilateral fora such as the UN are the only viable mechanisms for resolving these issues.
"Talk of military options and pre-emptive strikes should be avoided by all parties to avoid vitiating the atmosphere for such dialogue," AICC General Secretary in charge of Media Veerappa Moily told mediapersons.
"There are no military solutions to the complex geo-political issues and problems that afflict the West Asian region," he said.
In this context, he said the Congress always believed that India and Iran shared civilisational links dating back to thousands of years and that any threat of unilateral military action by any power against Iran deserved to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
